Focus Areas

Trained as surgeons specialized in visceral surgery, which can be translated as surgery of the inner organs, we have gained a wide experience in minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery. We focus on colorectal and pelvic floor surgery, proctology, tumor surgery of the intestinal tract, hernia surgery and endocrine surgery (see operative spectrum of PD Dr. med. Daniel Bimmler and of Prof. Dr. med. Raoul Droeser).

The successful surgical treatment of patients suffering from diseases of inner organs requires manual skills, up-to-date surgical technique, extensive knowledge and longstanding clinical experience on the one hand, but also a high degree of empathy and communicative capabilities on the other hand.

Nowadays, patients judge therapeutic results not only with regard to objective criteria (such as absence of relapse or long-term survival), but increasingly also with respect to subjective assessment of the quality of life attained.
Besides ensuring a careful selection of therapeutical means and an impeccable surgical technique we strive to include our patients in the discussion of the treatment strategy when future quality of life is at stake.

Quite often there is not just one “scientifically correct” operation but a whole range of possibilities. Only the evaluation of various aspects of life by the patients themselves can determine the direction of this decision process.
We offer the experience to engage in such discussions and the willingness to allow adequate time for it.

Practice

  • A patient-oriented investigation
  • A thorough information about necessary operations
  • Performance of operations and personal attendance to our patients in various private hospitals in Zurich
  • Second opinions with regard to planned operations

Our practice is open to all patients upon prior appointment. Urgent cases will receive the appropriate priority. Office sessions will be charged according to the usual health insurance tariff.

Appointments are welcome upon recommendation by general practicioners or physicians of other specialities. However, patients may call for appointments themselves, as well.

Affiliation with Hospitals

Coverage by adequate insurance (“private” or “halfprivate”) is usually required for treatment in the private hospitals Bethanien and Pyramide am See. Patients with "private", "halfprivate" and basic health insurance can be treated in the Klinik Hirslanden.

Minor surgery may be performed in an out-patient setting and is covered by the basic health insurance.

Handover in the Practice for Visceral Surgery!

After a successful and enriching 3-year collaboration with PD Dr. med. Daniel Bimmler, I am pleased to inform you that as of October 1st 2025, I will be in charge of the Practice for Visceral/Abdominal Surgery in Zurich. Many thanks to Daniel Bimmler for his support over the past three years. His support greatly facilitated my access to the Zurich medical community. My goal is to continue the tradition of high-quality, patient-oriented visceral surgery as before—with a focus on personal care and close interdisciplinary collaboration. The same applies to endocrine surgery, particularly thyroid and parathyroid surgery (European Certificate EBSQ in Endocrine Surgery). To offer all patients the optimal solution, I also perform procedures robotically.

Prof. Dr. med. Raoul Droeser

I am pleased to hand over the responsability of the Practice for Visceral Surgery to Prof. Dr. med. Raoul Droeser as of October 1st, 2025. Until 2027, I will continue to work independently, but with a reduced workload.
